Uzbekistani som (UZS)

Currency

The Uzbekistani som (ISO code: UZS) is the official currency of Uzbekistan, introduced in July 1994 to replace the transitional som coupon at a rate of 1 som to 1,000 coupons. Subdivided into 100 tiyin, it is issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Due to cumulative inflation over subsequent decades, fractional coins have effectively ceased circulation, leaving higher-denomination banknotes as the primary transaction medium.
