Cuban peso (CUP)

Currency

The Cuban peso, coded as CUP and represented by the symbol $, is the legal tender of Cuba. Established in 1857 under Spanish colonial rule, the peso has served as the island's primary domestic currency for over a century. Following the retirement of the dual-currency system and the Cuban convertible peso (CUC) in 2021, the CUP became the sole monetary unit issued by the Banco Central de Cuba, subdivided into 100 centavos.
