Gambian dalasi (GMD)

The Gambian dalasi (GMD, symbol D) is the official currency of the Republic of The Gambia, issued by the Central Bank of The Gambia. Introduced in 1971 to replace the Gambian pound at a rate of five dalasis per pound, the currency is subdivided into 100 bututs. The dalasi was redesigned over subsequent decades to update security features and depict iconic local landmarks, historical figures, and wildlife native to West Africa.
