Russian ruble (RUB)

Currency

The Russian ruble (ISO code: RUB, symbol: ₽) is the official currency of the Russian Federation, issued by the Bank of Russia. With a history stretching back to the 13th century as silver ingot fragments, the ruble is one of Europe's oldest currency units. It became the world's first decimal currency in 1704 under Tsar Peter the Great. Subdivided into 100 kopecks, the modern ruble was redenominated in 1998 at a ratio of 1,000 to 1.
