Guatemalan quetzal (GTQ)

Currency

The Guatemalan quetzal, designated by the code GTQ and symbol Q, is the official legal tender of Guatemala. Introduced in 1925 under President José María Orellana to replace the Guatemalan peso, it was named after the national bird whose tail feathers were used as currency in ancient Mayan times. Issued by the Bank of Guatemala, the quetzal is divided into 100 centavos and operates on a managed floating regime.
