Haitian gourde (HTG)

Currency

The Haitian gourde, designated by the code HTG, is the official monetary unit of Haiti. First introduced in 1813 to replace the colonial livre, the term gourde derives from the Spanish word for fat (gorda), referring to hard-silver coins. Issued by the Bank of the Republic of Haiti, the gourde is divided into 100 centimes and operates on a floating exchange rate system amidst informal local use of the "Haitian dollar" accounting unit.
