Maldivian rufiyaa (MVR)

Currency

The Maldivian rufiyaa (symbol: Rf or MRf, code: MVR) is the official currency of the Maldives, subdivided into 100 laari. Managed by the Maldives Monetary Authority, the rufiyaa derives its name from the Sanskrit word 'rupya', meaning wrought silver. Introduced in 1947 to replace the Ceylon rupee, the currency was initially pegged to the British pound and is today pegged within an exchange rate band against the United States dollar.
