Mexican peso (MXN)

Currency

The Mexican peso (ISO code: MXN, symbol: $) is the official currency of Mexico, issued by the Banco de México. Tracing its lineage to the Spanish dollar (real de a ocho) used throughout colonial America, the modern peso was redenominated in 1993, with one new peso (MXN) replacing 1,000 old pesos (MXP). Subdivided into 100 centavos, the peso is one of the most actively traded emerging-market currencies worldwide.
