Costa Rican colon (CRC)

The Costa Rican colón, identified by the ISO 4217 code CRC and symbol ₡, is the official monetary unit of Costa Rica. Named in honor of Christopher Columbus (Cristóbal Colón), it replaced the Costa Rican peso in 1896 at par value. Issued by the Central Bank of Costa Rica, the colón was historically divided into 100 céntimos, though coins in céntimo denominations are no longer in active circulation due to inflation.
