Salvadoran colón (SVC)

Currency

The Salvadoran colón (ISO code: SVC) served as the official currency of El Salvador from 1892 until the implementation of the Monetary Integration Law in 2001. Named in honor of Christopher Columbus, it replaced the Salvadoran peso at par and was subdivided into 100 centavos. Although the United States dollar became the primary circulating tender in 2001, the colón remains officially recognized as legal tender at a fixed exchange rate.
