Icelandic króna (ISK)

Currency

The Icelandic króna (ISK, symbol kr) is the official currency of Iceland, issued by the Central Bank of Iceland. Originally tied to the Danish krone when introduced in 1874, the króna became an independent currency following the dissolution of the monetary union after World War I. Revalued in 1981 at a ratio of 100 old krónur to one new króna, the currency operates without subunit coins, as the eyrir subunit was formally abolished.
