Saint Helena pound (SHP)

The Saint Helena pound (SHP) is the official currency of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, pegged at parity (1:1) with the British pound sterling. Introduced in 1976 to replace local banknotes that circulated alongside UK currency, it is issued by the Government of Saint Helena. Although legally tied to sterling, SHP banknotes and coins are only accepted locally in Saint Helena and Ascension Island, while Tristan da Cunha uses the British pound.
