Lebanese lira (LBP)

Currency

The Lebanese pound, also referred to as the Lebanese lira (symbol: £ or metric symbol L£, ISO code: LBP), is the official currency of Lebanon. Issued by the Banque du Liban, it was introduced in 1925 during the French Mandate to replace the Syrian pound and was originally pegged to the French franc. Subdivided into 100 piastres, the currency has historically operated under a pegged rate system managed by the central bank.
