Guyanese dollar (GYD)

Currency

The Guyanese dollar, identified by the ISO code GYD and symbol $, is the official monetary unit of Guyana. Established in 1839 as part of British colonial currency reform, it transitioned from a sterling-linked asset to an independent currency issued by the Bank of Guyana in 1965. Subdivided into 100 cents, inflation has effectively removed cents from active circulation, making whole dollars the primary transaction unit.
