Romanian leu (RON)

Currency

The Romanian leu (ISO code: RON, symbol: lei) is the official currency of Romania, issued by the National Bank of Romania. Meaning "lion" in Romanian, the leu was first introduced in 1867. The current ISO designation RON was adopted in July 2005 after a major redenomination that swapped 10,000 old lei (ROL) for one new leu. Subdivided into 100 bani, the leu functions under a managed float exchange rate policy within Europe.
