New Taiwan dollar (TWD)

Currency

The New Taiwan dollar (ISO code: TWD, symbol: NT$) is the official currency of Taiwan, issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Introduced in 1949 to replace the hyperinflated Old Taiwan dollar at a ratio of 40,000 to one, it helped restore price stability across the island. Subdivided into 100 cents, the currency operates on a managed float system and serves as a vital anchor for East Asian high-tech supply chains.
