Iranian rial (IRR)

Currency

The Iranian rial (symbol: ﷼, ISO code: IRR) is the official currency of Iran, issued by the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran. First introduced in 1798 as a silver coin, it was reintroduced in 1932 to replace the Qajar qiran at par. Although the rial is the official unit of account, everyday transactions in Iran are frequently calculated in toman, an unofficial unit equal to ten rials.
