Somali shilling (SOS)

The Somali shilling (ISO code: SOS) is the official unit of currency of Somalia, issued by the Central Bank of Somalia. Introduced in 1962 to unify the East African shilling in the south and the Somaliland shilling in the north, it is historically divided into 100 cents. Due to political instability and periods of high inflation in the late 20th century, official coin production ceased, though the currency remains the recognized legal tender.
