Nicaraguan cordoba (NIO)

Currency

The Nicaraguan córdoba (symbol: C$, code: NIO) is the official currency of Nicaragua, subdivided into 100 centavos. Introduced in 1912 and named after Francisco Hernández de Córdoba, founder of the nation, the currency is issued by the Banco Central de Nicaragua. The modern córdoba oro (code NIO) was established in 1991 following periods of severe hyperinflation to restore stability, historically operating under a crawling-peg system.
