Macanese pataca (MOP)

Currency

The Macanese pataca (ISO code: MOP) is the official currency of the Macao Special Administrative Region, issued by the Monetary Authority of Macao through authorized commercial banks. Introduced in 1906 during Portuguese administration to replace the silver dollar, it is subdivided into 100 avos. The pataca is legally pegged to the Hong Kong dollar at a fixed rate of 1 HKD to 1.03 MOP, indirectly linking it to the US dollar.
