Hungarian forint (HUF)

The Hungarian forint (HUF, symbol Ft) is the official currency of Hungary, issued by the Hungarian National Bank. Introduced on August 1, 1946, the forint replaced the hyperinflated pengő and helped stabilize the postwar Hungarian economy. Although historically subdivided into 100 fillér, fillér coins were phased out due to inflation by 1999, making the forint the smallest circulating unit of account in everyday Hungarian commerce.
