Quart (qt)
The quart (symbol qt) is a unit of volume equal to one-quarter of a gallon, two pints, or four cups. In the US customary system, separate definitions exist for liquid quarts (about 0.946 liters) and dry quarts (about 1.101 liters), whereas the imperial quart equals approximately 1.136 liters. Originating from the Latin term 'quartus', the unit historically served as a benchmark for commercial liquid trade, particularly milk and spirits.
