Barrel
The US fluid barrel (symbol: bbl) is a traditional unit of volume used for liquids, distinct from the petroleum barrel. Officially defined as 31.5 US gallons—equivalent to approximately 119.24 liters or 0.11924 cubic meters—it is derived from medieval English wine barrel regulations. While modern commerce mostly uses metric units, this barrel standard remains legally recognized in the United States for taxation and brewing statistics.
