Cubic inch (in³)
A cubic inch (symbol: in³) is a unit of volume in the US customary and imperial systems defined as the space inside a cube with edges of one inch. Equal to exactly 16.387064 cubic centimeters or 1/1,728 of a cubic foot, it was standardized internationally in 1959. Historically, the cubic inch served as the fundamental baseline for defining automotive engine displacement in North America and regulating liquid container sizes prior to widespread metrication.
