Tsubo

Area

3.95 yr²

A tsubo is a traditional Japanese unit of area equal to the area of a square with sides of one ken, which is roughly 3.3057 square meters or two standard tatami mats. Formally standardized during the Meiji period under the Shakukan-hō system of weights and measures, the tsubo remains widely used in modern Japanese real estate and construction to specify building footprints and residential property sizes, despite official administrative adoption of the metric square meter in 1966.
