Square mile
The square mile (symbol: sq mi or mi²) is an Imperial and US customary unit of area equal to 640 acres or 27,878,400 square feet (approx. 2.5899 square kilometres). Established under English land surveying systems and preserved in the US Public Land Survey System, it corresponds to the area of a square with sides of one statute mile. It is widely used across the US and UK for expressing regional, urban, and geographical land areas.
