Square decimetre (dm²)
The square decimetre (symbol: dm²) is a metric unit of area equivalent to one hundredth of a square metre (0.01 m²) or 100 square centimetres. It represents the surface area of a square with sides of one decimetre (10 centimetres). While less common than the square centimetre or square metre, the square decimetre is historically significant as the two-dimensional surface base for defining the litre, which equals one cubic decimetre.
