Hectare (ha)

Area

11,959.9 yr²

The hectare (symbol: ha) is a non-SI metric unit of area equal to 100 ares, or 10,000 square metres, representing a square with 100-metre sides. Introduced during the metric system's creation in France in 1795, its name combines the Greek prefix hecto- (hundred) with are. Although not an official SI unit, the International Committee for Weights and Measures accepts the hectare for use with the SI, making it the world standard for land and field measurement.
