Acre
The international acre (symbol ac) is a customary unit of land area defined as exactly 4,840 square yards or 43,560 square feet, which equals approximately 4,046.86 square meters. Historically rooted in medieval English agriculture as the amount of land that could be plowed by a team of oxen in one day (one furlong by one chain), it was formally standardized internationally under the 1959 International Yard and Pound Agreement.
