Mil (mil)
The mil, represented by the symbol mil, is a unit of length equal to one-thousandth of an inch or exactly 0.0254 millimetres (2.54×10⁻⁵ metres). Widely used in North America for specifying the thickness of plastics, foils, and printed circuit board traces, the term originates from the Latin "millesimum" meaning thousandth. In 1959, its value was locked precisely to the metric system alongside the international inch.
