Decimetre (dm)

The decimetre (symbol dm) is a metric unit of length equal to one tenth of a metre, or 10 centimetres. While less commonly used in everyday speech than the centimetre or metre, the decimetre is fundamentally tied to volumetric measurement, as one cubic decimetre is defined as exactly one litre. The unit forms an integral part of the decimal structure established during the initial creation of the French metric system in the 1790s.
