Micrometre (µm)

Length

6.21×10⁻¹⁰ mi

The micrometre, denoted by the symbol µm, is an SI unit of length equal to one-millionth of a metre (10⁻⁶ metres). Formerly known as the micron, that designation was officially revoked by the General Conference on Weights and Measures in 1967 in favor of standard SI terminology. The micrometre is universally employed in cellular biology, material science, and manufacturing to measure microscopic structures like cells, dust particles, and tolerances.
