Line
The line (symbol lin) is a traditional unit of length equal to 1/12 of an inch, or approximately 2.1167 millimetres. Historically used in Western Europe for precise measurements in watchmaking, button manufacturing, and typography, its exact value varied prior to modern standardization. In contemporary contexts, the button industry still uses French lines (lignes) as a standard measure for button diameter.
