Brazilian real (BRL)

Currency

The Brazilian real, designated by the code BRL and symbol R$, is the legal tender of Brazil. Introduced in July 1994 by the Central Bank of Brazil during the Plano Real stabilization program, it successfully ended decades of severe hyperinflation. Subdivided into 100 centavos, the real replaced the short-lived cruzeiro real and grew to become one of the most prominent currencies in Latin American financial markets.
