Milligal
The milligal, represented by the symbol mGal, is a submultiple of the Gal equal to one-thousandth of a Gal, or 0.00001 metres per second squared. Because Earth's gravitational field varies only slightly across different regions and geological structures, microgravimetry relies on the milligal to detect subtle subsurface density anomalies, making it a standard unit in oil exploration, geodesy, and tectonic research.
