Pound-force foot, torque

A pound-foot is a unit of torque (a vector). One pound-foot is the torque created by one pound force acting at a perpendicular distance of one foot from a pivot point. The alternate name "foot-pound" (ft-lb or ft-lbf) is also used to refer to this unit; for example, in the United States, the torque created by automobile engines is usually quoted in foot-pounds.
